Terms of Use
These terms are the agreement between you and Vocabie's developer. Please read them before using the app — section 11 limits our liability, and section 8 explains what happens if the AI features are misused.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating a profile or using any part of Vocabie, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
2. What Vocabie is
Vocabie is a language-learning app with lessons, spaced-repetition review, practice games, and an AI-powered Vocabie Coach. Your account, learning progress, and Coach conversations are stored under your account on our servers (hosted on Supabase) so you can continue on another device, in addition to a local copy kept on this device. Some features send text to OpenAI for processing — see “AI processing” in the Privacy policy.
3. Your account
You create an account by signing in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password confirmed by a 6-digit code. A public username is optional and is not required to use any part of Vocabie. You're responsible for keeping access to your device and account secure. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, progress, and conversations from our servers and this device, and cannot be undone.
4. Your content and data
Words, notes, Vocabie Coach conversations, and dictation transcripts you create belong to you. You can export your learning and app data — your profile, progress, settings, and saved conversations — as a JSON file at any time from “Settings > Privacy and data”. That export is a copy for you to keep; it cannot be loaded back into the app, because your account on our servers is the authoritative record. You can delete your data — including what Vocabie has remembered about you from past conversations — with the clearing and reset tools on that screen, or delete the account entirely from “Settings > Account”.
5. Support comes first
If anything goes wrong — a billing problem, a bug, wrong lesson content, a Vocabie Coach reply that seems incorrect or inappropriate, or a question about your data — contact us first at support@jakubhyl.com, or from “Settings > Help > Contact support”. Most issues are resolved quickly this way. Please give us a reasonable opportunity to fix a problem before escalating it, requesting a chargeback, or taking any formal action. Nothing here removes any legal right you have to complain to a regulator or to your payment provider.
6. Subscriptions and purchases
Vocabie is a paid subscription. Purchases are processed by the store you use — the App Store on iOS or Google Play on Android — and recorded through our subscription platform, RevenueCat. Pricing, renewal, and free-trial terms are shown before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, and cancellation is managed in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings — deleting your Vocabie account does not cancel store billing. Refunds are handled by Apple for App Store purchases or Google for Google Play purchases under the relevant store's policy, not by us; we can't grant or reverse a purchase, but contact support and we will help you with the process. Where the law gives you a statutory right to cancel or to a refund, that right still applies.
7. Acceptable use of Vocabie and its AI features
Use Vocabie for your own language learning. You must not: attempt to bypass, disrupt, overload, or reverse engineer the app, our servers, or the AI systems behind them (beyond what the law expressly allows); use automated tools, scripts, or scraping to access the service; share or resell your account; attempt to extract system prompts or manipulate the AI into ignoring its instructions; use Vocabie Coach to generate unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexual, or otherwise abusive content, or content unrelated to language learning; submit other people's personal or confidential information; or use the service in a way that breaches any law or the terms of our providers, including OpenAI's usage policies.
8. Monitoring, rate limits, and enforcement
AI requests are authenticated to your account, rate-limited, and logged for security, abuse prevention, billing integrity, and reliability. We may automatically flag activity that looks like abuse, automated access, or an attempt to misuse the AI features, and we may review flagged activity. Where we find a breach of these terms, we may rate-limit, suspend, or permanently terminate your access, with or without notice depending on the severity, and we may report unlawful activity to the competent authorities and preserve relevant records for that purpose. Deliberate or repeated abuse may result in termination without a refund, to the extent the law permits. If you believe an enforcement action was a mistake, contact support@jakubhyl.com and we will review it.
9. AI output — accuracy and your responsibility
Lesson content, translations, Vocabie Coach replies, pronunciation feedback, and sentence grading are produced or assessed in part by AI systems. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, outdated, or inappropriate for your situation, and the same input may produce different results. It is educational material only. It is not professional advice of any kind — not legal, medical, financial, immigration, or academic — and it is not a certified translation or a substitute for a qualified human translator or teacher. You are responsible for how you use it, and you should verify anything that matters before relying on it. Please report anything harmful or clearly incorrect to support@jakubhyl.com.
10. Availability and changes to the service
Vocabie depends on third-party services — including Supabase, OpenAI, RevenueCat, Apple, Google Play, and your device's own speech recognition — and on your internet connection. We don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability, and features may be changed, limited, or discontinued as the app develops, including where a provider changes or withdraws their service. We aim to give reasonable notice of significant changes. If we permanently discontinue a paid feature during a period you have already paid for, contact support and we will deal with it fairly.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Vocabie is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost opportunities, lost data, or any loss arising from your reliance on AI-generated content, from an exam or assessment outcome, from any interruption of the service, or from the acts or omissions of a third-party provider. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to Vocabie is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for your non-waivable rights as a consumer, which in some countries (including the EU, the UK, and elsewhere) means some of the exclusions above may not apply to you.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Vocabie changes. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new “last updated” date, and continuing to use the app after that date means you accept the updated terms. If you don't accept them, stop using Vocabie and you may delete your account from “Settings > Account”.
13. Contact us
Questions about these terms, or a problem of any kind? Email support@jakubhyl.com first, or reach us from “Settings > Help > Contact support”. Support is the fastest route to a fix and the first step we ask you to take.
